Lilith

from $5,800.00

This painting is named Lilith. “Lilith is is a feminine figure in Mesopotamian and Jewish mythology, theorized to be the first wife of Adam and a primordial she-demon. Lilith is cited as having been "banished" from the Garden of Eden for not complying with and obeying Adam”.

I created Lilith at a very tumultuous and cathartic point in my life. Outgrowing old patterns and people around me, I felt stuck between leaving behind beloved friends and following my heart to create a new life for myself. Lilith is the courage to become the bad guy in some stories to pursue the hero’s journey in yours. To be happy, you have to listen to your heart and do what must be done.

I included a few different points of symbolism in this work. Lilith has a multi-faced head- nodding to the masks I wore during this time. A mask for the others to think I was still present, like nothing has changed. The mask when people saw me as “two faced” for leaving. A mask to hide how I really felt to myself for a very long time too. The staff, or if you like Tarot, the wand is her guiding light. “The meanings of the Wands Tarot cards deal with the spiritual level of consciousness and mirror what is important to you at the core of your being. They address what makes you tick – your personality, ego, enthusiasm, self-concept, and personal energy, both internal and external. The negative aspects of the Suit of Wands include illusion, egotistical behavior, impulsiveness, a lack of direction or purpose, or feeling meaningless” (Biddy Tarot). The wand is adorned with the Ouroboros, a symbol of destruction and rebirth.
