Anywhere Else

from $8,400.00

This piece is about daydreaming. I grew up near Atlanta and my dad taught me how to spot the planes he worked on in the sky by the color of their tails. I would lay in the grass in my backyard and wish I was on one of those planes flying above me. Any of those planes. To be leaving somewhere else, anywhere else.

I would reason with myself, thinking “what if” that plane was going somewhere uninteresting to me at the time like the Midwest or Antarctica. I would ponder and always decide yes, I would like to still be on that plane. To fly away from my backyard to somewhere with a chance of adventure or having friends or the other things I wanted as a child.

This dreaming can be a source of torment or escapism or depression. One of my deepest regrets as of now is how much time I wasted being depressed as an adolescent and young adult. However, daydreaming can also lead to something more spectacular - hope. To dream of a future of something different, of being in a different place with different opportunities can be the force that pushes you into motion. It means that you can picture a different life for yourself and inspire you to take action to manifest and achieve that life. Perspective is everything. Allow yourself to drift away, to visualize everything you want in this life, to use your dreams as a compass. But don’t forget to stay grounded as that is the version of you that must forge the path in the right direction.
